Susie update

Hi readers, it’s Kerry, Emily and William here, writing three articles in the library today. We haven’t been in here for ages, and were interested to see that there is a security guard now on reception. We didn’t get a chance to ask why, but we are still wondering.

First, we want to talk about the Susie book we have been writing with Cat (Catherine) who has also illustrated the book. Today we have just met with Cat in the library.

The reason we met was to sign a contract to get the book printed. This is a wow moment for all of us. We are all feeling proud, happy and excited!

However, as Kerry rightly says, there is still also a lot to think about, and to plan. Things like the cost of the book, making sure Cat is paid properly for her work and time, how we are going to tell people about it and much more!

You will hopefully soon see the photo we took today on social media. It’s of the four of us, in the library, with a giant pencil and clipboard, as Cat held the contract.

There will be more to share once the book is ready to purchase. It will be pre-orders first, which we need lots of, so that will help us get the book out quickly.

When it comes to posting the books out, the plan is that we will get a load of our friends, all with learning disabilities, together, and have a fun few hours packaging and posting out the books. If you order, we might be sending yours out too!

So, for now, keep your eyes peeled on Susie’s Travels Page, and on social media, and we will keep you updated on our page.

The writers of the Our View column are supported in their editing by People First Dorset - a charity led and run by people with learning disabilities with support from staff
